I have a now three year old lab from this breeder. Our interactions with the breeder in the beginning were excellent, and we brought home our black lab puppy. In her first year, it took us six months of various treatments to get rid of the worms she came to us with. She also had pneumonia so badly that she almost did not make it. We spent far more in her first year than we did when we bought her! Around age one, she started limping on her left back knee. It turns out she needed a TPLO surgery to the tune of nearly $4000. Around this time we met another family with a lab from Hoof N Paw. Their lab was about six months older than ours, and had already gone through the same surgery. In speaking with them, the other back knee was also bad and needed the same surgery. This particular family also mentioned to us that as their lab ages, he has become more aggressive despite being very well socialized. And I found that odd as we have found our dog to be an amazing and sweet lab. However, she is now older and the aggression is there. We are stumped as to why, she sees lots of different people, she plays with other dogs, but she is now so protective that she shows too much aggression. Our lab turned three years old today, and now her back right leg is basically shot. By the end of the day she does not put weight on it at all. In speaking with our vet, both of the issues she’s had with her legs are genetic. She is a very well cared for, extremely well loved dog and we will do anything for her to make her pain free. She is going to need surgery on her right leg as well. Recently we met yet another family with a lab from this breeder. Their lab has had back hip issues so badly, that even though he is not that old, he hobbles around like an old dog. The first family we met, as well as myself, have attempted to contact the breeder and inform them of the TPLO issues. On their website they list all sorts of genetic issues that their dogs are free of, but no mention of TPLO. Of course we received no response. Please beware, read reviews from people with dogs that aren’t still puppies or have passed their first year.
